BBQ Sunday

Yesterday my brother inviting us all round to his house for his annual summer BBQ. Sadly it was quite an overcast day but we still made good use of the garden and managed to cook lots of food on the BBQ. DD was in her element because DB had invited several of his friends and our mum to the afternoon as well, and there is nothing DD likes as much an audience.
DB had been especially sweet by making sure there was plenty for DD to play with including a stickyball set and an inflatable football.
Although not a large garden there was plenty of grass for DD to stomp about on after devouring a massive pile of sausages, burgers, cheese and nanny's famous homemade cake. She certainly worked up an appetite with all her entertaining.
Once the weather had eventually made us all retreat inside, we watched a football match on the TV and had lots of random conversations. The kinds you do when their is a group of you and drinking has been involved. Topics included immigration, the Olympics and smoking.
It was a lovely chilled afternoon and DD slept really well last night after all her adventures. So a huge thank you to my brother for having us, feeding us and for the many games of throw and catch with DD.

Sunday Outings and Monday's plans.

Yesterday we visited my parents for the afternoon and we all ended up going to a local restaurant that had recently opened. I would love to say it was a nice meal out but it really wasn't. Two of our meals had be sent back because they were wrong and the whole place was sweltering hot. I certainly won't be returning in the near future :(
DD enjoyed spending most the time blowing bubbles in her chocolate milk so she was happy.
Our plans for today are to start DD on some basic homeschooling using this scheme here. We still haven't decided anything long term but have agreed that she is ready to start learning now. So today we will be introducing the first weeks theme which is cows with some colouring, rhymes and stories on the bovine theme.
I have already sorted out her craft box which has been on my list of things to do forever!!! Thanks to a horrible bout of heartburn this morning I was the first one up and able to get it organised in peace. I'm even £9 richer as I found some T***o voucher I didn't even know I had. As well as a Sun bonnet sue embroidery patch to do and an unopened pack of hair slides that I can crochet more hearts and flowers for.
This afternoon is certainly going to be craft based with two new projects to get on with, my blanket is on a back burner as I'm waiting for some matching white wool to arrive at the local wool shop/
Hope you all have a lovely Monday

Dinner is prepared.

Well here it is readers. I can't say it looks to fantastic before cooking, but it does smell beautifully mouthwatering. I've wrapped it up in tinfoil and popped it in the oven, so I just need to turn it on an hour before hubby comes home from work. I think 3 hours cooking is a bit excessive and I'm wondering if it shows the efficiency of cookers in the 60's. So I have pretty much cooked the meat and am planning on giving it an hour to cook.
And here a peek at my winter knitting project. This one long strip is almost the length of a double bed. It was intended for DD's bed but when I measured it I was already way over length. And I do have a huuuuuggggeeeee stash of wool that needs using up. Hopefully I will soon be able to get onto strip two.

I'm hoping to post again later and show you a photo of have my dinner experiment went. Catch you laters.

Gather your ingredients

Here they are! All of my precious ingredients for Saturdays dinner. All together it has set me back about £8, so I'm hoping it will be really tasty.

Today's tip;
Pineapple Liqueur.
Make your own pineapple liqueur. For this you need a fairly large pineapple, sugar and brandy. Peel the pineapple, removing all the coarse hairs. Grate the pineapple quite finely and sprinkle it thinly with sugar. Allow it to stand for 24 hours - preferably where greedy young fingers can get to it, because its smell does have an effect rather like a candle to a moth. Press out all the juice, using a wooden spoon and a conical sieve. To this liquid add an equal volume of brandy and sugar - 2oz of sugar per 1/2 pint of brandy*. Pour this liquid into a jar. Add one or two slices of fresh pineapple. Cover the jar and allow to stand, unsampled, for 3 weeks. Strain and bottle the liqueur.
* Don't use your best brandy for this job. Use the cheapest you can lay hands on.

I don't know about you but I think I will be trying this recipe very soon. Doesn't it sound yummy?
